National Geographic Traveller (UK) invites you to view the winning and shortlisted entries from our Photography Competition 2018, in partnership with Billingham and wallacespace. Winners will be announced on 28 February 2018 via the website and in the April edition of the magazine (out 1 March).

On show will be our judges’ pick of the following categories:

Action: Getting that perfect, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot takes skill, precision, and often a spot of luck. Our shortlisted entries caught our judges’ steely eyes for that very reason.

Nature: The intense stare of a lion, a frozen landscape cloaked in white, dappled glades in a rainforest — Mother Nature is the perfect muse, and our shortlist captures her very essence.

People: Be it a humble shopkeeper selling their wares or a riotous summer festival, people always have a story to tell. Our finalists don their storyteller hats and showcase the world through the eyes of the people who live in it.

Urban: Cities provide some of the most dynamic and varied experiences on the planet — especially in photography. Our top three picks are a snapshot of our ever-changing urban world.

Portfolio: One for the professionals. Our portfolio category showcases the best of a series of photographs based on a single subject or theme, telling a story of a person, a place, or an experience.

Video: But it’s not all single snapshots. Our video category celebrates photography in motion, showcasing a destination, a culture, an event through the art of the moving image.
