Lift Off: Switzerland

Pegging itself as the world’s highest 3S (three-cable system) gondola lift, the just-launched ‘Matterhorn glacier ride’ will whisk 2,000 passengers an hour from Zermatt (via the existing Matterhorn Express cable car to Trockener Steg) up to Klein Matterhorn glacier at 12,500ft. This mammoth project saw pan-Alpine engineers battling against seriously challenging high-altitude conditions at what was Europe’s highest building site. Connor McGovern
