01 Molitor by MGallery
You could pay the €2,440 (£1,745) membership fee to swim in Paris’ legendary art deco Molitor pool, or you could splash that cash on a room — the building was converted into a luxury hotel last year. Rooms have portholes overlooking the pool, but the junior suites, with vast private terraces, are worth the splurge. Doubles from £221. mgallery.com

02 Les Bains
Proust’s once favourite bathhouse morphed into an iconic club for the likes of Andy Warhol and other ‘stars and mavericks of today and tomorrow’ in the 1970s, before falling into disrepair. Now, Les Bains is back, having reopened in March as a wildly chic 39-room hotel, restaurant and — you guessed it — nightclub. Doubles from £286. lesbains-paris.com

03 Peninsula Paris
This beaux arts palace, the Peninsula, swept into the 16th arrondissement last summer, twinning Asian elegance with vast rooms and acres of marble. Everything — from the lighting to the bath taps — is controlled via high-tech tablets, while the house car is an old-school Rolls Royce Phantom. Doubles from £587. paris.peninsula.com

04 La Réserve
Nineteenth-century high society was the inspiration for this intimate, 40-room hotel which opened in January. Designed by Jacques Garcia, with sibling hotels in Saint Tropez and Geneva, it’s a riot of silken walls, taffeta furnishings and sumptuous marble bathrooms — as well as butler service in the suites.
