We pick out our three favourite blogs this month, including climbing Sri Lanka's Sigiriya Rock and a native's guide to the offbeat city of Portland

From the shores of Pacific islands to the glaciers of Europe’s mountainous backbone, the current changes in weather are becoming more apparent. With international travel now a staple addition to our generation’s annual itinerary, should we be concerned about falling victim to the effects of ‘global weirding’? This term describes the inexplicable weather patterns, seasonal temperatures, and natural events resulting from climate change. Is global weirding affecting your travels?

The challenging climb to the top of the ultra-scenic Sigiriya Rock was just the beginning of this adventure. It also involved monkeys and being shown up by an 80 (plus)-year-old grandma But the killer wasps will be what I remember about this beautiful Sri Lankan icon… I gripped the railing as I fell, wondering how sturdy this staircase really was. Was that a wobble? Were we perched precariously on a cliff that was about to tumble to the ground? Or was there something more disturbing at play?

By now, the offbeat charm of Portlandia needs no introduction. It’s wacky, it’s crunchy, it’s hipstery, and we love it. Meet Portland native Cecilia Doan — smart, stylish, quirky, cool as shit. She’s a living, breathing, hot blonde version of Portland. When I visit, she’s who I want to hang with, which makes her the perfect curator for our guide to the North East neighbourhood she now calls home. Full of history, DIYers and window shopping, the hood is definitely worth a visit.
