When you go outside, how much do you notice? The yellow petalled weed growing through the cracks in the pavement? The splayed finger wings of a red kite circling above? The way the late summer sun brushes everything with red-gold?

Most of us rush from one place to another, too caught up in the business of our own minds to pay attention to the world around us. Even when we travel to faraway places, we carry our usual frenetic thoughts with us. soothedinthecity.com

Let me tell you a bit about driving a diesel truck in the Arctic…

The truck is moody. It’s like a toddler who drags his feet on cold dark winter mornings, throws fits, and refuses to get going. Even with an engine block heater, a battery blanket, an oil change, new fuel filters, anti-gel fuel additive, and another battery blanket, it keeps dying on us.

We go out in the mornings to start the truck and… nothing. goforth-explorer.com

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the day I turned over the keys to my house and began a life of full-time travel. There are other dates close to this I could have chosen as my anniversary, but I picked turning over the keys to my house as the start of my travels because that was the point of no return.

Never did I think I’d be celebrating this day on a remote island in the Atlantic Ocean, having visited over 150 countries and territories around the world.
