01 Titanic Hotel
Ignore the name: there’s little that’s Titanic-related in this ship-themed hotel, which opened last summer. Instead, the historic building — a former Merseyside tobacco warehouse — takes centre stage, with brick ceilings and steel columns in the enormous rooms, and a vast ground-floor bar-lobby-restaurant, complete with dockside terrace. 02 Hotel Ibis Styles Liverpool Dale Street
There’s more to Liverpool than the Fab Four — unless you’re staying at the breezy Ibis Styles, which unleashed a riot of kitsch on the commercial district last summer. Each floor has a different Beatles theme, while the lobby features an ‘I am the Walrus’ motif. Doubles from £67. accorhotels.com

03 Hope Street Hotel
At the ripe old age of 11, Liverpool’s first boutique hotel still holds its own. Pine beams, exposed brick walls and cherry wood furniture give a Scandi feel to the large rooms, set in a building that was formerly a Victorian carriage works and a police station. The attention to detail is superb. Doubles from £80. hopestreethotel.co.uk

04 Aloft Liverpool
Last November, Liverpool’s iconic Royal Insurance Building became a hip Starwood hotel. Beyond the modern rooms — with pixelated cushions, local art on the headboards and Bliss toiletries — lie original features, from tiled corridors and wood-panelled walls to the stucco-ceilinged ground floor and gold rooftop dome.
