The winner will see their piece published in the magazine and on natgeotraveller.co.uk. Plus, they’ll enjoy an epic 17-day expedition to Madagascar, courtesy of Natural World Safaris, worth almost £6,000!
The winner will embark on a small group expedition led by Daniel Austin and Hilary Bradt, authors of the award-winning Bradt guides to Madagascar and Madagascar Wildlife. The 17-day safari will take you from the lemur-rich eastern rainforests of Andasibe-Mantadia National Park to the spectacular limestone pinnacles and canyons of the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park.
Seek out fosa in the dry deciduous forests of Kirindy and capture the iconic shot of the ‘Avenue of Baobabs’. Other significant sites of ecological interest on the trip will include Ranomafana National Park, home to the rarely sighted greater bamboo lemur; Zombitse-Vohibasia National Park, the south-western spiny desert eco-region; and the otherworldly alkaline lake in the rarely visited Tsimanampetsotsa National Park. Terms & Conditions
There is one overall prize consisting of a 17-day expedition to Madagascar.
The prize includes return economy flights from London to Antananarivo, Madagascar for 1 adult; one place on the small group Madagascar Expedition with Daniel Austin & Hilary Bradt with all internal flights, transfers meals and activities as included in the expedition itinerary. Trip commences on 11th October (departure from UK) and ends on 28th October 2016 (arrival back in UK). Prize flights must be booked at least 30 days prior to departure. Travel cannot be changed once the booking has been made. Flights are non-transferrable and non-refundable.
The prize does not include travel arrangements between the prize winner’s house and the London departure airport; the cost of any passports or travel documentation required for the prize winner or prize winner’s guest to travel to Madagascar; vaccinations; travel insurance; personal spending money; all drinks; any additional extras outside those specified in the prize description. Any additional costs and expenses incurred during the trip will be the responsibility of the prizewinner.
Winners must ensure that they have valid passports, visas, travel insurance and any relevant vaccinations at the time of travel. Winner must make their own arrangements for travel to and from the departure airport (London Heathrow). No responsibility will be taken if the winners are unable to travel due to insufficient documentation.
Prize is valid only for the specified departure date of 11th October 2016. The prize is non-negotiable, non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or substituted for other benefits. Failure to claim the prize or other promotional item by the time or in the manner specified for the particular promotion will make any claim invalid.
Entrants agree to permit National Geographic Traveller (UK) to publish the winning and runner-up entries in the magazine, on the National Geographic Traveller (UK) website and on the National Geographic Traveller (UK) social media channels. The winning and runner-up entries may also be used by National Geographic Traveller (UK) and the competition sponsors in promotional material relating to the competition. Winners must co-operate fully for publicity purposes if so required. Entries submitted must be original work and must not have been entered into any other writing competition, or been published in any other publication or website. Entrants must own the copyright to any work entered. Entrants will retain copyright to their work.
The prize draw is open to residents of the UK or Republic of Ireland aged 18 and over. No purchase necessary.
Competition closes 30 April 2016 at 11.59pm GMT. The competition will be judged by National Geographic Traveller (UK) editorial director, Maria Pieri, and editor, Pat Riddell. The judges' decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
