Heading to the Alps with a big group? Book the new breed of smart, serviced chalets and you'll be well catered for, with all the trimmings for a surprisingly small cost

Best for families — Chalet Phoebe, Méribel, France
Set over three floors, this chic chalet sleeps 12 in six smart, en suite bedrooms. There's a cosy sitting room with panoramic mountains views, an open-plan kitchen and a hot tub on the terrace, and the property is just 10 minutes' walk from pretty Méribel Village. A week's board for 12 from £5,775.
Best for childcare — Altitude Lodge, Les Gets, France
Stay slope-side at Altitude Lodge, which sleeps up to 29 people, but has five family rooms with hot tubs. The chalet has its own piste-side bar, while inside there's a sauna. Eight hours' daily childcare from £525 a week. A week's chalet board from £1,019 per person including flights and transfers.
Best for ski school — Chalet Bianca, Bardonecchia, Italy
An hour from Turin, this resort has 60 miles of slopes, more than half graded easy, and six ski schools. The bright, quirkily decorated chalet has seven en suite bedrooms (including family suites, sleeping four) that can be booked individually, or the whole chalet outright. A week's chalet board from £400 per person.
Best for ski-in ski-out — Chalet Valeriane, La Rosière, France
Sleeping eight in four en suite rooms, Chalet Valeriane boasts uninterrupted views of Tarentaise Valley. Just 100ft from the slopes, the chalet has modern furnishings throughout but has been built to blend in with its surroundings. A week's chalet board from £699 per person.
